Judy:

Hello, I'm Judy.

Andrea:

Nice to meet you. I'm a student. We are three students.

Judy:

Yes.

Andrea:

We study English and we have a project to find out how good the persons in Melbourne knows her neighbours.

  • have – should be: are doing

  • the people – this should be: how well people in Melbourne know their neighbours.

Judy:

Oh, OK.

Andrea:

So, the first question is: How well do you know your neighbours?

Judy:

Well, I'm only travelling here, and they live in South Melbourne…

Andrea:

Yes?

Judy:

and I come and on Tuesdays. And I don't really know the # neighbours at all.

Andrea:

OK.

Little girl:

Mummy!

Andrea:

Thank you. Eh... What do you think…

Little girl:

Mummy!

Andrea:

Eh... What makes a good neighbour?

Judy:

Um…

One that and might tell you if something is happening that shouldn't be. And um… if you leave something outside then they'll tell you that they've left it outside and remind you about things like that.

  • remind you about – to make you remember something, to tell you about something because you might forget about it

Andrea:

OK. Everything else?

Judy:

Um… They say hello to you.

Andrea:

Ah… OK. That's nice. Yeah. That's important. And what makes a bad neighbour?

Judy:

Um… Oh…

Someone who maybe um… or um… doesn't say hello.

Andrea:

Yeah. It's the opposite, no?

Judy:

The opposite, yes.

Andrea:

Yeah, the opposite. Eh… Who is the best neighbour you've ever had? In your whole life.

Judy:

Um…

The best neighbour I've ever had. Well, when I # lived in St Albans we had… I had a neighbour who lived just across, diagonally opposite, 'cause we lived on the intersection, and she lived across there. She was my best neighbour because . We used to watch some TV together or sometimes um… she would invite me over or… things like that.

an intersection

Andrea:

That's really nice. And ah… who was the worst neighbour that you ever had?

Judy:

Um…

Well, at the moment Um… I'm not saying that she's all that bad, but we had a bit of a disagreement about the fence. And so, um… she wanted a different fence .

all that bad – as bad as we are talking about: the worst ever.

Andrea:

OK.

Judy:

She wanted a more expensive one and so, when she couldn't have her way she swore at us and .

swore – (swear, swore, sworn) – to say bad words (f#@k, sh$t, etc.)

Andrea:

OK. That's all the questions. Thank you very much…

Judy:

Thank you

Andrea:

for help us. I wish you…

for help us – should be: for helping us
